The Liverpool defender has emphasised the importance of getting a result against a team that could oust the Reds from a Champions League place next season if we don't improve over the next few months.

"I'm sure the City game will be built up with everyone talking about it," said Carragher.

"It's another game where people will be looking at us again. We've got to try and do what we did against Man United. We need to get together as a team, with the crowd right behind us and give it a really good go.

"Man City is another massive game for us. We are very close in the league. With the right result it's the kind of game that can get our season back on track..

"We thought that was going to be the case after beating United but it didn't work out that way.

"The only people who can change it are the players on the pitch, the manager and the staff.

"There are no secrets in football really. It's about hard work on the training pitch and just to keep going. Hopefully we'll get a bit of luck with the injuries and get some of the lads back and go from there."
