Carragher: We have no hiding place

The Bootle-born fullback admits that he has 'no sympathy for anyone who goes into their shell' following fierce criticism of the Reds' dismal exit from the FA Cup at the hands of a makeshift Portsmouth side.

Carragher said: "I have no sympathy for anyone who goes into their shell. I don't want to criticise anyone but we get paid well and enjoy a great life. The fans were very disappointed with what happened at Portsmouth. My friends and family travelled to Fratton Park and they were upset and have let me know about it.

"But it isn't all a bed of roses and you have to have some drawbacks. If that is getting stick off the crowd when things aren't going well, then so be it. In that situation, you have to show the mental strength that you still want to play. You can't go hiding. We are the only ones who can turn this around and end the criticism. The fans, the manager, the coaches, they can't do it. It's down to us on the pitch."
