Carson staying at the Valley

Carson has been impressing during his loan spell with Charlton and his displays have sparked rumours the Reds might invoke a clause that allows them to recall the England Under 21's international in January.

Rafael Benitez has dismissed these rumours however, confirming that Carson will see out the full season at the Valley to gain some vital first team experience.

"We knew Scott needed to play and have experience in the Premiership, and that's why we let him go to Charlton," said the Liverpool boss.

"I don't think it will be a big problem for him to stay there. We are happy to see him playing a lot of games in a row.

"If he can improve, and he can show the quality that he has, then it is good for him and is good for us.

"If a player of his age is playing every game, why should we bring him back when we have goalkeepers here with experience?

"If something happens, then things could change. But our idea is to keep him there and play games."
