Cheyrou, who has gone on loan to Marseille, says he has no regrets in signing for the Reds but admits his time here has been a disappointment.

Cheyrou was a highly rated player in the French league with Champions League experience, when he signed for Liverpool but he never lived up to expectations for the Reds.

"I am 26-years-old and I felt that I had to get a new challenge," said Cheyrou. "I have mixed feelings about my time with Liverpool. I have to say I am a little disappointed.

"I needed something new and I preferred to come back to my own country.

"We can't say it was a failure, but I am a little disappointed. In a way I was lucky to play for one of the greatest clubs in the world and on that level I learnt a lot.

"But when I signed for Liverpool it was to win titles and the only thing we managed was one little League Cup.

"Moreover, I found myself on the bench so I was a little frustrated. I wouldn't say that I wasted my time, but I couldn't accept another year like that. I needed to play more often."
