The French international is only too aware of the intense competition for places that exists at Anfield. Knowing that has had to perform when ever he has been given a rare opportunity has been difficult for a layer more used to the sedate settings of Lille.
He told LFC magazine: "I hoped to add more than I have done so far. I am the first person who is frustrated by this. But it's all a question of getting used to the English game, to my team-mates and being in and out of the team.
"I do have the impression when I play I have the sword of Damocles above my head and that I do have to do well in order to prove I can play for a club like Liverpool and stay in the team.
"I told myself I would do everything I could to help the team out of the bad run. I know I'm not Ronaldo or Zidane. I just want to do my best for the team"
