Cheyrou hoping for Marseille move

The former Lille midfielder, heralded as the new Zidane upon his arrival at Anfield in the summer of 2002, feels that his hopes of cementing a place in Les Bleus squad for the next World Cup would be best served away from Merseyside after a frustrating time in the Premiership.

Cheyrou said: "Marseille are interested, and I have to admit I am tempted by this challenge. And, to my mind, Marseille have made the best signings of the close-season by bringing in Benoit Pedretti, Habib Bamogo and Frederic Dehu.

"I am not succeeding in England. Now there is the World Cup in Germany and, if Marseille can help me to play in it, I am ready for that."
