The 25-year-old former Lille man has endured a hugely frustrating time at the club thus far but he insists that he is now ready to show why he was once dubbed the 'New Zidane' by Gerard Houllier.

Cheyrou, speaking to the club's official website, said: "I never doubted myself, but I have to admit it wasn't easy for me last year.

"I know that after a bad season you need to give more than one hundred per cent to prove you are able to play here and to prove you can give something to the team.

"Now it's a new season and a new start for me. I've been unlucky to have some back trouble over the last few weeks but hopefully that can be sorted out. I want to be able to give what I gave to the team during pre-season.

"You will definitely see the best of Bruno Cheyrou this year."
