Cisse lacks confidence

With a £14m price tag comes a great deal of expectation, and the French striker is aware of what is required of him at Anfield.

"I think it's understandable that when I signed people wanted a lot from me, but it's always difficult when you start out at a new club," he said. "I've spoken to Thierry Henry and he's just told me to be more confident.

"It took a while for him to settle in English football too. I remember it took a few games before he started to score regularly. He's very confident in me because he knows me and what I can do. He's told me it's normal for it to take time but everything will be OK.

"English football is stronger than French football. There is more physical contact. I just need time to adjust. There's a big difference between the supporters too. Liverpool supporters are 20 times louder and it's more demanding.

"I believe I can score a lot of goals for Liverpool but the area I need to work on most is my confidence. It's difficult to adapt to a new team but I know I will be ok. I will do my maximum to score as many goals as I can."
