Believing they were masked robbers a member of the public called the police who surrounded the car before realising who they were dealing with.
"I saw two men in this car wearing masks,2 said the woman. "It scared me - I thought they were about to commit a robbery."
A spokesman for Merseyside police added: "They said they were having a laugh. No offences have been committed."
The witness said: "It seems a strange way to have fun. Maybe that's what rich footballers do when they've got too much time on their hands."
