Cisse's future in doubt

Rafael Benitez has preferred using Peter Crouch instead of the French striker so far this season, to the confusion of many fans who feel the club need more goals.

Cisse had been linked with a possible transfer should Michael Owen's return to Anfield have been agreed, but that deal broke down.

"I accept Rafa Benitez's decisions and I'm patient," said Cisse. "But I'm not going to stay on the bench all season.

"At the moment it is only the start of the season but if the situation does not change, my thinking will be different in December."

These latest developments have prompted Marseille to renew their interest in the striker.

"The possibility of taking Cisse on loan will firm up in December," said sporting director, Jose Anigo. "We know that he is not playing at the moment.

"If Djibril is to play in the World Cup finals with France then he needs to be playing regularly. If he wants to come to Marseille he will be made very welcome."
