City confident of landing Gillespie

Gillespie is to be released by the Reds at the end of the season and has been on trial at various clubs hoping to earn a deal.

The striker scored four in a reserve game for Bristol City and their manager, Danny Wilson, is confident the player will choose to sign for his club.

"Other scouts have been trailing Stephen, but we were promised first refusal," said Wilson.

"Nothing is finalised yet, but I am very hopeful he will join us. We still have to agree a contract but Steven knows he is likely to get a chance quicker with us than some bigger clubs."
