Spanish newspaper 'Marca' claimed that City offered Torres a double-your-money offer to come to Eastlands. The paper also reported that Torres immediately knocked City back.

However, the Sky Blues have quickly denied the story to avoid any claims of making an illegal approach to Torres.

"At no time has any Manchester City official, or anybody representing the club, contacted Fernando Torres, his representatives or Liverpool Football Club," said a Man City spokesman.
