Kirkland, who was expected to make his England debut next month against Australia, sustained a serious knee injury in preventing a Crystal Palace goal and will miss the rest of the season.

Clemence, speaking from the England Under-18 training camp in Egypt, told the FA.com that he expects his the young keeper to bounce back from this setback.

He said: Obviously it's very disappointing news, for Chris, his club and from an England perspective too.

"Chris has done excellently to make himself the number one at Liverpool and he is one of the best prospects that we have.

"We wish him well in his recovery and know him and his character well enough to be confident that he'll make a full recovery and come back to fulfil his enormous potential."
