Liverpool last night completed the £7m signing of Coates from Nacional after the Uruguayian defender was given a work permit.
The six foot six inch tall centre-back has been given the number 16 shirt.
After completing his transfer, Coates flew to Kiev to join up with the Uruguay squad for Friday's friendly with Ukraine.
