Comfortable win for reserves

Two goals from Besian Idrizaj and strikes from Danny Guthrie and Craig Lindfield gave Liverpool a comfortable win against an experienced West Brom side.

Liverpool started the game superbly and were a goal ahead after only five minutes. Idrizaj has struggled in his first season in English football, finding it difficult to adapt to the pace and physical demands of the game. The 17 year old Austrian has also suffered with injuries but last night showed a glimpse of his potential.

Idrizaj picked a loose ball up, held off two defenders before calmly slotting home the opening goal. The goal was a confidence booster and Idrizaj turned in a man of the match performance.

Liverpool dominated the first half with Lee Peltier, Antonio Barragan and Idrizaj all testing the West Brom goalkeeper. Such was the Reds' dominance it was a suprise to see them go in at the interval only 1-0 up.

The deserved second goal arrived only moments into the second half when Danny Guthrie caught the West Brom defence napping and coolly slid the ball home for 2-0.

It was 3-0 before the hour when Idrizaj scored his second of the game after good approach play from his strike partner Ramon Castille played him in inside the box.

At 3-0 reserve team coach Paco Herrera decided to give some of the victorious FA Youth Cup team a run out. Robbie Threlfall, Ryan Flynn and Craig Lindfield all came on for the Reds and it was Lindfield who rounded the night off by scoring Liverpool's fourth from close range.
