Craving a good result at the Cottage

The Redmen have had an appalling start to the season away from Anfield, with only four points from a possible 18.

The visit to Craven Cottage comes at a vital time for Liverpool, who are currently languishing in 10th place.

And Hansen believes picking up points from matches such as this are vital to keep Liverpool in the running.

Hansen said: "If you win matches like Saturday's and you're up there, close to the top three, then at least you've got respectability and it gives you that extra confidence as well."

He added: "Liverpool aren't going to win the championship but you don't want to get to the stage where all of a sudden you're 20 points behind Arsenal. Because of where Liverpool have been and what they have achieved over 25 years, seeing them so far behind depresses everyone."

But Hansen admitted the trip to the Cottage would be a test for the Reds.

"The away form has been a concern and Fulham is a hard place to go. It is important Liverpool get a good result down there because you don't want to lose more ground on the teams ahead of you," he added.
