Crouch can partner Owen

The Liverpool striker is confident he can strike up an effective partnership with former Red Michael Owen as their limited performances for England to date have shown.

"Myself and Michael have played together before and it's worked well. The first time was in the USA last summer when he scored a hat-trick against Colombia and I've come off the bench and linked up well with him," said Crouch.

"If that's what the manager wants to do I'm sure we can carry it off. Both systems can work. Steven Gerrard is top class at playing in the position just behind. But for me, the more strikers there are on the pitch, the more chance I have to play.

"If the manager chooses to play us together it will be great for me but I think it will be good for Michael as well.

"He's a top class player and I'm sure that if he plays up front on his own he will score goals.

"But if the manager feels I'll help him to score - and I believe I'll weigh in with my share as well - I believe he will get goals if I play with him too."
