Crouch confident of Bellamy link up

Bellamy partnered Crouch up front for the Reds for the last half an hour of Sunday's Community Shield game against Chelsea and the two combined well for Crouch's winner. Crouch believes that goal could be the start of a fine partnership between the two.

"Craig's got that pace and energy to liven things up and it worked well when he did," said the England striker.

"He's a top quality player and you can see it in training. He has great movement and he can pick you out, and he showed that for my goal with a great ball.

"In training he puts it on my head from everywhere and that's paid dividends in the end.

"You need that type of player in the side and it's working well so hopefully that can continue throughout the season.

"It is a powerful squad and that's what the manager's been trying to get, by bringing in four or five new players competing for places all over the pitch.

"We've got the utmost belief that we can beat Chelsea in any given game but going into the season we need to carry on these type of performances and progress like we have been doing."
