Crouch defends Rooney

Crouch sat England's poor performance against Israel on Saturday after having an operation on his broken nose. Wayne Rooney led the England line at the weekend but his performance came in for a lot of criticism, criticism which was undeserved according to Peter Crouch.

"Wayne is a fantastic talent and you don't want to curb that, you want to let him play his natural game," said the Liverpool striker.

"Although at times he can still get carried away, I think if you take that [aggressive streak] away, he wouldn't be half the player he is.

"He is maturing and he's a big asset to the England side. He's still a very young player and has been through so much in his career already.

"Everyone can see he's blossoming at Man United. We should enjoy his talents and hopefully they'll come to the fore and help England through."
