Crouch hoping to keep place

Wayne Rooney was suspended for Steve McClaren's first two competitive games in charge of England but Peter Crouch admirably stepped up to the plate and scored three goals in those two games to go with the brace he got in McClaren's first game, the friendly against Greece.

Rooney is available again after suspension but Crouch hopes his goal scoring form means he won't be the one to miss out when the Manchester United forward returns.

"All I can do is perform as well as I can, score goals and hopefully not get replaced," said Crouch.

"I don't know what it is about international football that suits me, but the players in the team definitely help. With that quality of player around me I know I'm going to get chances and, at the moment, I'm taking them. Long may it continue.

"We all know Wayne is coming back from suspension, but I think we have given the manager food for thought.

"Wayne is a top, top player and I'm sure he's going to want to come straight back into the team. It would be a difficult decision to leave him out because he's a world-class talent and he's going to want to play. But we've won three games in a row without him and I think it was important to show that we could do that."
