The Liverpool forward was nicknamed RoboCrouch for his goal celebrations for England leading up to the World Cup finals in Germany, which cleverly endeared him to the public's hearts ahead of the big tournament.

"It was funny at the time but I diodn't want to carry on doing it until it became unfunny," he admitted.

"I've stopped doing it for the time being but if I ever score a really big goal you never know."

He has been the subject of much criticism from the press, England fans and even some Liverpool supporters for his lack of goals early last season.

But a few goals for club and country soon turned around many of the critics, who seemed to focus more on his height than on his ability.

"People were making judgements before they had seen me play," he said. "I guess people have always done that.

"I've got experience at the heighest level behind me now. People have seen what I can do and I feel comfortable.

"At first I was overwhelmed at moving up to international level, but the England lads are top class at making you feel welcome."
