The Czech Football Association say they are leaving the door open for Patrik Berger to continue playing for the Czech Republic.

They say that they have received no official request to quit from the player and that coach Karel Bruckner will speak to Berger to discuss the matter.

Czech FA press officer Jaroslav Kolar said: "We do not know anything official yet. We have only seen the report in the Czech newspaper.

"At the moment we have received no official decision from Patrick to say he has quit.

"Our coach, Karel Bruckner, will probably sit down with Patrick to discuss the matter over the next few weeks.

"Patrick did speak with our coach in January over the phone and because of his injury problems he agreed with the coach that he would not play for the national team for the first six months of the year.

"He said he wanted to concentrate on getting fit and playing for his club and then he would see what happens after the first six months of the year."
