"I was in Spain last week doing nothing more nundane than shopping in a local supermarket with my wife Marina," said the former Liverpool legend.

"It was Thursday and I looked at my watch. It was 3.06 and I stopped in my tracks. We wbth looked at each other and realised the significance of the moment.
"I knew that back home thousands of Liverpudlians would be at Anfield standing in silence at the Hillsborough Memorial Service.
"We didn't need to speak to each other. We just stood silently in those strange surroundings with some very personal thoughts about the 96 who died in Sheffield.
"Marina and myself have very powerful memories of 1989 and everything that surrounded the Hillsborough disaster. The pain, the agony of family members, the funerals that we all tried to attend as we attempted to support the bereaved.
"It's 15 years on and those memories will never fade. I might have been in Spain and unable to attend on the day, but I can tell you this. I was at Anfield in spirit."
