The Frenchman, who moved from Loftus Road just weeks after Finnan, is full of praise for the 27-year-old Irishman and feels his move to the Reds will prove to be 'the right club at the right time'.

Damiano said: "Steve Finnan's arrived at the right time and at the right club. I'm happy to see him at a huge club like Liverpool because I have seen him work his way up from the First Division, and work extremely hard to get where he is.

"He is a player who is improving all the time. The bigger the challenge in front of him the more he seems to respond and get on with it. He is a very discreet player but has a huge effect on a game.

"He is a defender who relies more on anticipation and a good reading of the game than a physical approach. He is able to beat players, able to support the attack and his touch is very good.

"He can also play in midfield and has the capacity to organise the entire right corridor on the pitch, and it's important for a team to have a player like Steve."
