Damiano: I couldn't turn down Liverpool

The former Fulham assistant was ready to join up with Fifa when he received an offer from old friend Gerard Houllier that he simply could not afford to refuse.

"I was due to go on a Fifa mission when Gerard contacted me," admitted Damiano in an interview with the club's official website.

"I didn't hesitate very long. Gerard and I have known each other for a long time and you can't turn down a club like Liverpool."
