Defeat was harsh says Ablett

The reserves were beaten 1-0 by Man Utd last night but gave a good account of themselves and were the better side on the balance of play. The defeat was an undeserved one according to Gary Ablett.

"We will play a lot worse than that in the future and win games," said the reserve team coach.

"We had a young team out eager to impress and do well and we passed the ball really well for the majority of the game. We conceded a poor goal from our point of view with the organisation for their free-kick and that's something we need to be better at.

"The only save our goalkeeper Daniele Padeli had to make was in stoppage time. We dominated the game and Jack Hobbs was unlucky when he headed against the bar. Jack is our captain and he always leads by example.

"We created some very good chances on the night but didn't have the luck you sometimes need on the night. Ryan Flynn and Jordy Brouwer should have scored with free headers from eight yards out but didn't even hit the target so that was disappointing.

"After the game I told the players we did very well but at the end of the day we have lost and it hurts I have to say. The players were hurting after the game but it's a great learning experience for them. It's a feeling they don't want to experience too often in their careers in the sense that they played so well and took nothing from the game.

"Physically I thought we were very strong and full credit once again to our fitness coach Antonio Gomez who has done a brilliant job with the players.

"I would also like to praise Hughie McAuley who works with me. Hughie has been here a long time and doesn't get the praise he deserves but he puts a lot of hard work in out on the training field with the players. We are here to hopefully eventually get players up to a standard required to play in the manager's first team."
