New signing Abel Xavier looks set to make his debut against Ipswich at the weekend due to Jamie Carragher's suspension.
Talking about his options, acting boss Phil Thompson said: "There are a few lads who come into consideration. Obviously Abel will come into the equation or we can put John Arne Riise back in there, with Jamie being out.
"There are options and Abel is more than capable of playing left-back if needs be."
