Defensive duo on midweek defeat

Liverpool came close to equalising on a number of occasions, but failed to beat the excellent Santiago Canizares in the Valencia goal.

But while Traore feels Liverpool's efforts went thoroughly unrewarded, he recognises the fact that the Spaniards are a more experienced side that the Reds.

He said: "We deserved more with the chances we had.

"But we could see they were more experienced. Twice they have been to the final of the Champions League, but I don't feel we deserved to lose the game.

"But you learn how to play against great players like Carew and Pablo Aimar. I have certainly done that."

Keeper Jerzy Dudek also expressed his thoughts on the game, believing last Saturday's energy-sapping encouter with Spurs, plus the Spaniards ability to play at a 'higer level', were the reasons for the defeat.

"The game against Tottenham took it out of us. We had to play really hard for 90 minutes to win that game. But we are in the Champions League and top of the Premiership, and that is where we want to be.

"I don't think it was a case of luck being against us. When you take on a team like Valencia, you soon come to realise they are capable of playing at a higher level."
