Delighted Dudek feeling refreshed

The Polish international suffered an indifferent season for the Reds - eventually losing his place to young rival Chris Kirkland - after returning from a personal nightmare at the 2002 World Cup. The 30-year-old shot-stopper feels his dismal efforts in Japan and South Korea contributed to his loss of form as he wasn't sufficiently mentally prepared for the new campaign.

After enjoying a summer free from football, Dudek has assured all connected with the club that he is ready to recapture the form of his opening season that saw his skills between the posts likened to those of Liverpool legend Ray Clemence.

Dudek told the club's official website: "I'm satisfied with my performance. It was a really good team performance. We enjoyed a defensive training session in the morning and it paid dividends for us.

"I feel a lot better now because last summer I was very tired after the World Cup and I wasn't mentally prepared for the pre-season training then.

"Now I have done everything right and feel in great condition physically. I'm very happy with the last few months. I've had a problem with my back and then my groin but now everything seems alright. I've worked very hard in the summer and I'm happy with the situation now.

"It was good to play a full match. Everybody wants to be involved in pre-season but it's only early days. Because we work so hard in training it's difficult to play in all the game.

"A lot of the lads played the whole 90 minutes last night but maybe tomorrow it will be different. I just have to work has hard as I can and respect the decision of the manager."
