Destiny in our own hands

After last night's excellent win in the Riazor stadium Kirkland is confident the Mighty Reds will qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The 0-0 draw at home to Deportivo put Liverpool's qualification in doubt but last night's away victory ensured qualification is back in the Reds' own hands. A win in either of their final two games will see them through and Kirkland is confident the Reds can get that all important win.

He said: "This was a great result for us. They're a good team but we competed with them and beat them. It was a hard match but we did really well and the lads turned in a good performance.

"We know if we go and win in Monaco then we're probably through. We're not taking anything for granted but the lads are on a high after this result and we really believe we can win our final two matches.

"We feel there's a momentum building inside the squad now and we're starting to show what we're all about. This result is a brilliant one for us and we have to use it as a stepping stone to take us forward further."
