Diao desperate to stay

In a letter penned to the Anfield faithful, the tough-tackling Senegal international insisted that he will soon prove his talent to a doubtful home support.

Diao, speaking through the club's official website, said: "Further to growing speculation in the national media that I will be leaving LFC this summer, I would like to reiterate that I am fully committed to the club.

"I still have three years left on my current contract, I am very happy to play for the team and I want to repay the faith Gerard Houllier showed in bringing me to England. Unfortunately, injuries have dictated that my opportunities have been limited and the supporters haven't seen my true worth yet.

"I can understand that some fans might be frustrated because they are yet to see the Salif Diao that played at the World Cup for Senegal, but I can assure them all that I now feel fitter and stronger than ever and hope to take my performances to another level, given the opportunity."
