"We knew the game would be difficult," he said. "The pitch was difficult for both sides but we were very focussed.

"I have played in similar temperatures before, when I played in France, and it was totally different than playing in the English Premiership.

"I thought we played very well. It was a very good win for us and I enjoyed it. The lads are nice and have helped me settle in well at Liverpool."

The Senegalese midfielder has been filling in for the injured Steven Gerrard for the last two games, and is keen to impress both the manager and the fans.

"I am part of the squad and want to work hard and give 150 per cent for the team," he added. "The fans don't know me yet but I will show my best and try to do well."
