The Senegalese midfielder has failed to impress since his arrival two years ago, but is determined to stick it out at Anfield rather than move on like his fellow compatriot El Hadji Diouf.
"His arrival has changed everything," Diao said. "When we don't play, the coach comes to us to explain his choices and it is important on a psychological level.
"He has let everyone know that there will be a lot of changes during this season, so we don't feel abandoned."
