Diarra was signed by Gerard Houllier from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2001 but since then he has only played 45 minutes in a pre-season friendly in a Liverpool shirt. The rest of his Liverpool career has been spent out on loan.

This season Diarra has been at French side Lens, were he has impressed so much he earned a first call up to the French national side.

Diarra is due back in Liverpool at the end of the season but hopes the Reds and Lens can come to a deal and make his latest loan move a permanent one.

"I have found a well-balanced life here," he told the French press. "Lens are ambitious and it is due to this club that I have become an international player.

"Perhaps an agreement can be found between Liverpool and Racing. I hope so because it would be sad not to be a part of this adventure."
