Didi desperate for title glory

The 30-year-old German international concedes that it is a bitter disappointment to be without the cut and thrust of a genuine title challenge this season, but he is eager to bring an unprecedented nineteenth league title crown to the Red half of Merseyside in the near future.

Hamann said: "This season has been very disappointing. We are too far behind the top three. We have played them all at home, so we have to go away to Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, which doesn't make it easy to get points.

"It is very disappointing to be out of contention for the title in early December, but that is the way it is. We have to try and make things happen and make sure we get at least fourth place.

"You never know, maybe one of the top three will hit a bad run and drop out of things, so maybe at some stage we will play for third, but I don't think all three will blow up and give us a way back.

"It is tough to say what has happened, that this or that was missing. The results haven't been good, but I don't think there is a major problem.

"The team has been successful over the last two or three years without winning the league, which is the major target we want to achieve.

"It would be great to get a championship medal in my time here."
