Didi ready to fight for his place

The signing of Momo Sissoko in the Summer has led to further competition for the central midfield positions but Didi Hamann insists the Malian's arrival won't push him out the door just yet.

"The manager has made it clear he wants to use the whole squad and we all have to adapt to that," he said.

"All you can do is make sure you're ready when he calls upon you, whether that's on a Saturday or Wednesday.

"If you play for a big club like Liverpool, you've got to realise it's not possible to play 60 games a season. A lot of our players have the World Cup this summer, too, so it's going to be important for the manager to have the chance to make changes.

"Competition is always a good thing. People have mentioned the signing of Momo Sissoko as a threat to my position, but I don't think we're similar players. Momo gets forward a lot more than I do and I don't think our role is the same when we play.

"He's a good player and exactly the sort of signing we like to see Liverpool make because it gives us a better chance of winning trophies, which is why we're all here."
