The German international was substituted at half team in the defeat at Sunderland due to a shin injury. It was first thought that his omission from the second half was a tactical decision but Gerard Houllier has confirmed it was a change forced upon him.
Houllier said: "It wasn't a tactical decision at all. Didi came off because he was injured. He took a knock on his shin and wasn't able to go on."
