Diouf backtracks on 'war' claims

Despite scoring in Senegal's comfortable 3-1 win over the Gambians, Diouf made the headlines for his errant behaviour once more as his pre-match comments incited a riot inside the stadium.

Just as he did when accused of spitting towards West Ham and Celtic supporters, Diouf offered a meek apology. This time, though, Gerard Houllier and the Anfield faithful will expect the 22-year-old to learn the error of his ways.

Diouf said: "I am sorry if what I said was misinterpreted. What I meant was that it would be a tough encounter."
