The Liverpool player had to be restrained from approaching the Tunisia bench during the game and had to be led off the field by his colleagues at the final whistle.

The ban will take effect from the beginning of the qualifying campaign for the 2006 World Cup in June.

"After reviewing the video footage of the Senegal and Tunisia match, the organising committee identified various incidents which took place during the match," said a tournament spokesman.

"El Hadji Diouf is suspended for three matches for cases of violent conduct during the match. The suspension will take effect from the African Nations Cup 2006/World Cup 2006 qualifiers."
