The Liverpool winger has been on his best behaviour at the Reebok this season and was the club's leading scorer this season with nine goals.
"We are very close to doing a deal with Liverpool. That's all I can say at the moment," confirmed Addicks chairman chairman Phil Gartside.
"He's the first target and, when we've done that, we'll have a look at other things."
