The 24-year-old Frenchman joined the Reds from Laval back in 1999 and he is fully aware of the need to stake his claim for a regular place in the heart of the Liverpool defence in the near future.

Traore, speaking to the club's official website, said: "It has been a frustrating season for me after last season when I played a lot. I have been working hard in training and the reserves but it's not easy for me as there's some very good players here."

"I've got two years left on my contract at Liverpool and I still feel I can make it here. I want to stay and fight for my place and achieve something here and win trophies."
