Dudek aims to stay #1

Dudek has every sympathy with fellow Reds keeper Chris Kirkland but admits that he feels more comfortable knowing the number one spot is his until the end of the season.

"I feel very sorry for Chris because he's picked up the injury and I know he'd feel the same way about me if it was the other way around," says the big Pole, who has shared goalkeeping duties with Kirkland this season.

"But now I'm playing I know what I have to do and you get a little bit more confidence when you know you're likely to stay in the team

"I'm sure Chris feels the same way about things. As a professional you have to accept it when the manager decides to play someone else instead of you. It's not easy to accept, but you have to.

"Both Chris and I are ambitious. Chris wants to play for the national team and the fact England have been struggling with goalkeepers gives him great potential to do that.

"But to do so, he probably needs to play in the first team or it will be a lot more difficult to get into the national team.

"The situation is exactly the same for me. From the club point of view, this is a healthy position because we have two keepers who can play for the first team."
