Dudek's handy offering

After Liverpool's defeat by Valencia earlier this season Dudek claimed that the team "played like girls".

This annoyed the Wallasey Wanderers Ladies, whose manager Gary Halls complained about the comments.

The Liverpool keeper apologised, and has donated a pair of signed gloves to the Sunrise Fund, an initiative to raise funds for local charities.

"We have quite a few Liverpool fans in the team and they were quite angry when Jerzy made those comments," said Halls.

The club have now decided to name a trophy in honour of the Polish keeper.

"We have forgiven him now he has donated his gloves to auction off. We don't think he was being nasty."

Dudek said: "I have a lot of respect for women's football and know there are some fantastic players in the women's game.

"My comments at the time were misinterpreted. I wanted to send a pair of my signed gloves to the side to show my support for the team and to wish them luck in the future."

The gloves will be auctioned off later this month with all proceeds going to the Sunrise Fund and the Wallasey Wanderers Jerzy Dudek trophy.
