"When you are at a top side you can do it so you have to decide about the players and the way to do things. If you have to be strong enough we will be strong enough," said the boss.
"Both players are under contract, we are really pleased with them.
"Don't forget when we signed Xabi Alonso, nobody knew of him. We renewed his contract two years ago and he said he was happy.
"With Mascherano, you know what happened at West Ham so both players know they owe a lot to Liverpool Football Club.
"The fans like them and if we can keep working with them it will be good for the team. I think they owe Liverpool loyalty but I don't think I need to spell that out to them or remind them of that."
