Duo receive medals

The Liverpool duo, who were part of the England 1966 World Cup winning squad, received their medals from Gordon Brown at Downing Street yesteday along with the other non-playing subsitutes from that game against West Germany.

"I am absolutely delighted to welcome Gerry Byrne, Ian Callaghan and the other players to Downing Street," said the Prime Minister.

"It is absolutely right we recognise their role in England's 1966 World Cup success - one of our finest sporting moments.

"They are real football heroes and have made this country proud."
