Key defender Ruud Knol is also out after suffering a setback whilst recovering from a knee injury, and is now out longer than expected.

As mentioned in LFC Online's form guide earlier this week, Vitesse go into the match on the back of two defeats to Twente Enshende and Heerenveen.

Stephane Henchoz is likely to be on the bench for The Reds after coming through fourty five minutes of a Reserve team match against West Brom on Monday, but is unlikely to start with Sunday's clash against Manchester United in mind.

Steven Gerrard is almost certain to start after Gerard Houllier's declaration that the midfielder is now back to his best, and Milan Baros is tipped to start in attack after a superbly taken goal at the weekend.

Gerard Houllier must decide whether to stick with Jerzy Dudek after a difficult spell for the Pole this past fortnight, or give Chris Kirkland an opportunity between the sticks.

Speaking on the situation this week, Dudek said: "I don't know what is going to happen, but I believe in the boss. I trust and respect him very much for what he has done in the past and for what he is doing now. There is no question about that. We all respect him and we respect the decisions he makes."
