Easy at Ewood for Reds

The Reds made a disastrous start when an early injury to Milan Baros was soon followed by a Matt Jansen opener for the Lancashire club. The tide soon turned, however, when a Michael Owen penalty hauled the visitors level.

Gerard Houllier's side gained a firm grip upon the game when Australian international Lucas Neill was dismissed for a violent challenge that saw Jamie Carragher forced out of the game after just seventeen frenetic minutes of action at Ewood Park.

The visitors remained patient against the ten men of Blackburn and eventually took the lead in the second half through Michael Owen's fifth Premiership goal of the season. A late Harry Kewell goal, his third in succession for club and country, sealed a crucial win for the Anfield club who now move to within five points of the Premiership summit.
