Heskey has only scored three times in 29 games this season and has been criticised by both media and supporters alike, despite playing most of those games out of position.

However, he realises that it is essential for him to score goals and is determined to put things right.

"It's been a poor season for me so far," he said. "It's been really hard.

"I haven't really got going and the team have struggled over recent weeks as well.

"It's just a question of continuing to work hard and doing my best to get through this spell."

"I can't put my finger on why the goals haven't been going in for me this season. I'll just keep working on it and hope things start going my way soon."
