David Beckham resigned as captain following England's World Cup exit. His successor will be either John Terry or Steven Gerrard. The Liverpool captain has admitted it would be a dream come true to take the England captaincy.

"I don't want to be seen to be pushing myself for the England captain's role, but I have to say I'm really flattered to be mentioned as a possible candidate," said Gerrard.

"I can't disguise the fact I would love to do it.

"It is the ultimate honour to lead your country and you can't have a better dream. I have done it before and it meant so much to me, it is an incredible honour."
