Crouch's presence at the front of the England attack has led to claims that Sven Goran Eriksson's side are a long ball team. However, the Liverpool striker has dismissed such claims as nonsense.

"It frustrates me when people say we are a long ball side it really does," said Crouch.

"I've proved I can receive the ball into feet, hold it up and bring others into play as much as anyone else and we can play that way.

"With international football you need more than long balls to break teams down and we can pass the ball as well as anyone on our day, especially when you have a player like Steven Gerrard.

"Steven can play anywhere on the pitch and be the best player, he is that talented."
